One in five Britons keep 'financial secrets' from partner
One in five people in the UK are keeping an issue related to their finances a secret from their partner, according to new research.
The study by engage Mutual Assurance also found that 36 per cent of those who do keep secrets on money matters are hiding information about their debts and credit card bills from their other halves.
It was also found that mothers are more likely to keep secrets about their finances than fathers.
Commenting on the research, engage Mutual Assurance spokesperson Karl Elliot said it was important that couple discuss their finances.
"As the needs of the modern family change, financial worries can be a major cause of relationship breakdown," he explained.
"Understanding the state of your joint finances before a situation gets out of control could help to alleviate problems further down the line."
Recent research by private bank Cater Allen claimed that 30 per cent of people keep secrets from their partners on money matters.
